Position Information:

The Provider Assistant abides by the mission of NWHSU, and mission and guiding principles of operation of the Northwestern Health Clinics. The primary goal of the Provider Assistant is to support the quality of care, and to help increase the productivity of the provider during patient care encounters.




  • Accurately and thoroughly assist provider with the required documentation from medical visits:
    • Collect and document in the EHR of patient subjective for the visit
    • Enter in outcome measure tool data into the EHR
    • Procedures and treatments performed by healthcare professionals, including all providers disciplines, i.e. chiropractic, Chinese medicine, nutrition, naturopathy, and massage therapy.
    • Patient education and explanations of risks and benefits
    • Enter medications and allergies reported by the patient or family member into the EHR.
    • Enter instructions for patient or family members for self-care and follow-up.
    • Collect patient measurable data
  • Obtaining and documenting critical patient measurable data, including:
    • Vital signs, update patient height and weight
    • Outcome measures as needed
    • Perform patient set-up duties in preparation for the provider to take x-ray
  • Create smooth patient workflow and comfortable environment for the patient by assisting providers:
    • Room the patient
    • Maintain OSHA cleaning standards
    • Perform modalities as directed and ordered by the provider (i.e. ultrasound and electrical muscle stimulation)
    • Assist and educate patients on recommended nutritional or supportive products per provider direction
    • Assist and educate the patient in any home care instructions per providers instructions.


  • CPR certification required
  • 1-2 years of related experience in a chiropractic or medical field preferred

Other Specialized Knowledge/Skills:

  • Understanding of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, diagnostic procedures, pharmacology, and treatment assessments to the extent required to understand and accurately transcribe dictated reports. Translate medical abbreviations into their expanded forms.
  • Reasoning Ability - Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to apply logic and draw conclusions based on knowledge. Have the ability to refer to reference materials to solve problems.
  • Computer Skills - To perform this job successfully, an individual should be able to learn and use all functions of electronic medical record software and transcription software. Must accurately enter data into a database, search for information, send and receive email and attachments. Must be proficient in Microsoft Word in order to prepare correspondence, medical reports, and other documents. Must use Microsoft Excel to prepare flowcharts and organize data. Must use the internet to access schedules, research information, etc.
  • Other Skills and Abilities - Must be able to type words and numbers quickly and accurately; must comply with HIPAA confidentiality standards when accessing or communicating patient information.
  • Physical Demands - While performing the duties of this Job, a Clinical Assistant is regularly required to stand; sit; walk; use hands to type, write with a pen, finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The Medical Scribe is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The Clinic Scribe must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
