Position Information:

Directs, coordinates and oversees the University's various accounting and treasury operations and establishes University accounting policies and standards. Directs and oversees the operations of the Accounting Office, including accounting systems management; general ledger through period close, including preparation of financial statements; cash management; accounts payable and receivable functions; and fixed asset accounting. Provides assistance and guidance to stakeholders across the University.

Work Location:

Bloomington, MN with flexibility to work 3+ days per week remotely; must live local and be able to come to campus as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or equivalent course of study
  • 7+ years of progressive, professional experience
  • 5+ years of management experience
  • CPA or CMA certification preferred
  • Previous experience as a Controller in a similarly sized institution, with experience managing a small professional staff
  • Experience with tax return preparation in a non-profit environment ideal

Additional Knowledge/Skills:

  • Program administration skills, including organization, managing details, keeping multiple tasks/projects on track, using time well, delegating, and delivering reliable results.
  • Demonstrated success in teamwork and verifiable skills in handling multiple projects under pressure with the ability to work both on a team and independently to deliver results.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), as well as specialized software necessary for the fulfillment of the position to include knowledge of pivot tables.
  • Excellent knowledge of accounting principles, GAAP, best practices, computer software for accounting, financial statements and their preparation, payroll reporting and systems.
  • Awareness of government legislation and policy as it affects the higher education finance role; willingness to stay up to date with changes in legislation and implementing any new legal/reporting/GAAP requirements.
