Position Information:

This Northwestern Health Sciences faculty role will be 1.0 FTE within the Diagnostic Imaging Department of our College of Chiropractic and will report to the Dean.  The department chair is an administrative position that serves as an academic unit leader and facilitates communication between the administration and faculty.  Department chairs manage the day-to-day operation of the department and serve as a resource to the faculty and staff members in the department. Department chairs hold teaching responsibilities describes as a percentage of their work, described below.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Academic & Governance (.84 FTE)
    • Foster excellence in teaching, scholarship and service among the faculty
    • Teaching
    • Potential courses to be taught likely to include:
      • Skeletal Radiology Series of courses 1-4
      • Radiation Physics and Safety
      • Radiographic Technology and Positioning
      • Radiology of Abdomen and Chest
      • Clinical Imaging
  • Management and Leadership and Administrative (.16 FTE)
    • Mentors other faculty members
    • Conducts annual performance reviews for faculty members and develops annual goals
    • Develops an overall departmental work plan in alignment with the University's strategic priorities and mission
    • Establishes department budget priorities and allocations as directed by the Dean
    • Builds strong relationships with other campus leaders and departments
    • Facilitates a collegial and productive work environment for faculty and staff and brings concerns to the attention of the Dean
    • Recruits, onboards, and mentors faculty to meet the needs of the department
    • Participates in meetings as requested
    • Organizes and facilitates department meetings
    • Encourages faculty professional development
    • Ensures that official university policies and procedures are effectively communicated and implemented within the department
    • May serve as the primary liaison from the department to other university departments
    • Ongoing evaluation of department curriculum
    • Partners with assessment committees to evaluate the effectiveness of teaching
    • Recommends teaching assignments and faculty workloads
    • Represents the department in class scheduling
    • Manages faculty leaves and special assignments
    • Evaluates transcripts in collaboration with content experts
    • Website and catalog management in collaboration with marketing
    • Available to students for concerns
    • Partners with other University offices which may include:
      • Registrar's Office:  course scheduling to enhance the program's effectiveness and maximize faculty time and talent
      • Admissions:  Student recruitment and discovery day
      • Facilities:  Lecture and lab maintenance and amenities, manage technical specifications of facilities as needed
      • Human Resources:  Ensure all faculty complete mandatory training, and credential audit of faculty
      • Web & Media:  Ensure that the program is accurately represented in office document, i.e. web content, University Catalog

Position Qualifications:

  • Must be a MN licensed Doctor of Chiropractic (eligible and or in the process of being licensed)
  • Must have more than three (3) years of full-time practice or teaching experience and two (2) years teaching at a first professional degree granting institution.
  • Must be Radiology Residency trained and must hold a Diplomate from the American Chiropractic Board of Radiology (DACBR)
