Position Information:

Reporting to the Vice President of Academic & Student Programs, the Dean is a full-time ranked faculty member who plans, organizes, administers, develops, and evaluates the College of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine academic programs. The Dean also provides leadership for faculty to offer high quality education for students; manages and evaluates the performance of ranked and adjunct faculty. The successful candidate must have the ability to build and maintain strong collegial relationships with faculty, students, and other campus constituents. The Dean will spend 50% of their time as an administrator and 50% providing education instruction on campus.

Position Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine is required; will consider a candidate that is currently in-progress with their doctoral degree
  • 5+ years of experience with 3-5 years of management experience
  • The Dean will have experience leading and managing faculty in a higher education setting. Ideally the Dean has experience in health care education settings. This position also requires experience interviewing, hiring and training faculty and staff; planning, assigning and directing work; and managing performance. Prefer three years experience of teaching experience in a college or university. 
  • Licensed Acupuncturist (L.Ac.)

Other Specialized Knowledge/Skills:

The Dean will have the ability to perform multiple activities/tasks in an organized and logical manner. The individual must possess personal and professional attributes suitable for the position, especially the ability to direct attention to multiple tasks and the organizational and diplomatic skills necessary to work effectively with and lead the faculty. In addition, the Dean must be competent or capable of using common application software such as Microsoft Office and those elements of the enterprise management system of the University most relevant to the duties of the position. The Dean must also be able to:

  • Read, analyze, and interpret common professional and academic journals, financial reports, and legal and accreditation documents;
  • Respond to inquiries or complaints from students, faculty, members of the public, regulatory agencies, or members of the academic community;
  • Write and present speeches and articles for publication that conform to accepted style and format; and
  • Effectively present information to administrative colleagues, public groups, and the University Board of Trustees.
